LPA in Bangalore Rs 28 Cr, US $60,000 per annum: Indian students on F-1 visa ask which one is smarter to choose
A Reddit user asked if an LPA of Rs 28 per year in Bangalore is better than US$60,000 per year in the US.

$60,000 per annum is obviously higher than Rs 28 LPA, but the salary conversion can be misleading and given the US spend, the dollar option may not be profitable at all. An F-1 student explained the confusing situation he found himself in as he had two job options in front of him: a job in Bangalore, India that paid Rs. The Reddit user explained that he came to the United States to study for a master’s degree and found a job four months ago after struggling for a year. But he obtained H-1B status this year and is currently processing it. So on the one hand, he was lucky to get H-1B, but his salary was not very high in the United States. The Reddit user said he had always wanted to return to India and later the United States. He explained his current STEM OPT status, adding that he was worried about getting caught in the H-1B loop. The post went viral because it reflected two key things: Indians’ fear of H-1B after the Donald Trump administration changed the rules multiple times, and the U.S. job market, where a salary of $60,000 per year is quite low, which social media users believe is justified despite many claiming it is because the location is not Silicon Valley or New York, but Philadelphia. Most of the responses were in favor of Rs 28 LPA in Bangalore as the cost of living is still higher in Philadelphia. “60,000 in Philadelphia is the poverty line. You need at least 110 to 150,000. I would choose Bangalore and maybe come to the US later since you have H1b,” one person said.“Go to India. 60k is poverty in the US. 28lpa is generous in India,” suggested another. “No doubt 28LPA India. Unless you have a decent trajectory/confidence you can hit 100k+ in the US in the next year or so,” a third user wrote. But some Reddit users asked the student to give the US more time as 28LPA job opportunities from India will come again.

Just days ago, the government defended the condition of the pool despite reports of algae blooms and peeling blue paint shortly after renovations were completed.

In a lengthy Truth Society post on Friday, Trump highlighted his administration’s work to restore landmarks across the nation’s capital before turning to reflecting pools. “We have cleaned, renovated and beautified 45 monuments and memorials, 28 statues and 22 fountains in Washington, D.C.,” Trump wrote.

He went on to acknowledge the difficulties at the site, saying: “We had some real vandalism issues at the beautiful reflecting pool that’s located between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.”

The president also mentioned that “86 47” was carved into a nearby lawn, then claimed that the newly renovated swimming pool was deliberately damaged.

“No different than the chemicals used on the National Mall, they are using similar chemicals in the Reflecting Pool in an attempt to destroy and demean our beautiful creations,” Trump claimed, but he did not provide evidence to support the allegation.

Trump added that the algae problem was “75 percent gone” and said law enforcement was “actively investigating the situation.”

After renovation, algae bloomed and paint peeled off

The Guardian reported that Trump ordered the renovations as part of preparations for the 250th anniversary celebrations to give the reflecting pool an “American flag blue” appearance.

However, within days of the renovation, the water turned green due to algae blooms. Large swaths of blue paint were also seen peeling off the pots and floating on the surface.

National Park Service employees were then dispatched to use skimmers to remove the algae and treat the water with hydrogen peroxide.

Earlier this week, the Interior Department said “advanced nanobubble technology” was “very effective at killing the algae,” and National Park Service staff were removing the remaining dead algae from the bottom of the pool.

Despite this statement, the Guardian reported that murky water, visible algae and peeling paint remained late in the week.

Olympian arrested for touching pool lining

Hearn told The Washington Post that he was riding his bike nearby when he noticed part of the blue lining coming off and reached into the water to check.

“I didn’t break anything,” Hearn told the newspaper. “I didn’t destroy, break or peel anything. By the time I realized what was happening, I was handcuffed.”

'Can I survive on Rs 6 crore in India without a job?' Indian man waiting in line for green card gets laid off
Indian man with green card EAD asked if he can return to India with Rs 6 crore but no job.

There’s no consensus on how much money you should have in your bank account to give you a break. An Indian man in the United States recently took to Reddit to ask if he could survive on Rs 6 crore in India without a job. The man explained his situation, that he held a green card EAD, which meant he applied for a green card and had an employment authorization.“Blowed by the recent layoffs at tech companies. I’m in the process of filing a GC EAD and have about 5 months of financial runway left. Given the current job market, I’m trying to plan for the worst-case scenario: moving back to India,” said the Reddit user.He pointed out two main problems in moving to India: first, he did not want to sell his house at a loss; second, his children did not understand the Indian language and would face big problems if they moved to India.“Has anyone had a child advance to secondary school in India with no language skills? Is it worth spending 5 months trying to get a job in the US via EAD, or should I start preparing for a transfer now? Can I survive with a 6 in India without any job?” asked a Reddit user.Unlike the H-1B, which allows you to stay in the United States for 60 days after losing your job, there is no window period for the green card EAD. As long as the I-485 is pending (not denied), they can stay in the United States and continue to meet the requirements for the green card category.Opinions in the replies were divided as many felt that there would be no problem returning to India with Rs 6 crore and no immediate job, but another section felt that the Reddit user would still have enough time to find another job in the US. Leaving the green card queue is also not advisable. However, social media users agree that Rs 6 crore is enough in India.“Rs 6 Crore with no debt? You’ll be fine, haha. That’s a lot more than most families in India will retire with. Honestly, the bigger issue here doesn’t sound like money. It sounds like uprooting two kids before they go to junior high and then figuring out the house situation. I’d probably use those 5 months to keep looking. You have EAD, which removes one of the usual headaches employers have. There’s no reason to rush to move if you don’t have to. And, kids adapt faster than we think. Many children in CBSE schools, especially in big cities, barely understand Hindi. I wouldn’t stress that part too much,” one replied.

Brazil suspects cyber attack caused false emergency alerts (representative image)

Brazil’s civil protection agency said on Saturday it had temporarily suspended its mobile emergency alert system after a suspected cyberattack triggered a series of false alarms across the country overnight. The alerts were issued overnight between Friday and Saturday, causing widespread confusion and prompting complaints from residents who said they were woken by loud emergency notices. The system is typically reserved for major disasters and public safety emergencies. The agency said in a statement that the suspicious message was issued as an “extreme alert” and contained the word “misanthropy,” which refers to hatred of humanity. Authorities believe the notification may be the result of a hack, AFP reported.According to the Civil Protection Department, these false alarms were activated remotely by individuals outside the national protection and civil protection system and transmitted to various regions in Brazil. The agency said it had asked federal police to help investigate the incident. It added that the alert network will remain offline until additional security measures are put in place and the system can be safely restored.

America@250 surrounded by red, white, blue and green algae
President Donald Trump’s ambitious $14 million effort to beautify one of America’s most iconic landmarks ahead of the nation’s 250th birthday quickly turned into a spectacle.

TOI reporter in Washington: The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in the nation’s capital is designed to reflect America’s greatness. Instead, it currently conjures memories of an expensive middle school science experiment that went horribly wrong.President Donald Trump’s ambitious $14 million effort to beautify one of America’s most iconic landmarks ahead of the country’s 250th birthday quickly turned into a spectacle and a controversy that combined chemistry, biology, politics, social media ridicule and a federal infrastructure project that got out of control. The president’s vision is simple. The historic and often-overlooked stretch of water between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument will receive a patriotic makeover with a deep “American Flag Blue” coating designed to create a more dramatic mirror effect. Instead, within days of the renovation, bright green algae grew in the pool, making the restored monument look less like a shrine to democracy and more like an amphibian retreat. Social media naturally responded with the maturity and restraint it is known for. One viral post described the pool as “a vat of guacamole guarded by Abraham Lincoln,” while another suggested renaming it “MAGA Verde Lake.” A manipulated image shows Lincoln gazing solemnly into the green water beneath the caption: “Quarter Seven Before the Algae Bloom.” Another features a giant aquarium filter installed next to the monument with the slogan: “Chlorine America Again.”The Trump administration’s explanation initially focused on technical factors and unexpected environmental conditions. Critics point to a simpler theory routinely taught in science classes: Dark surfaces absorb heat. As one engineer dryly noted online, the project appears to have found—with taxpayer money—that the dark coating warms the water, creating ideal conditions for algae to grow. Allegations are flying that Trump’s sketchy associates won the no-bid contract for the job. To combat the bloom, workers were then observed pouring hydrogen peroxide into the 7 million-gallon pool, prompting a second round of entertainment, with comedians swooping down to the fiasco like seagulls picnicking on an abandoned beach. Jimmy Kimmel joked that Trump “promised to drain the swamp…and instead he spent $14 million building a new swamp,” while noting, “They had workers dump gallons of hydrogen peroxide in there — which, by the way, is how he dyes his hair.Perhaps the most memorable comment was provided by The Daily Show’s Jordan Klepper, who marveled that the pool looked like “Shrek had a convention there.” Just when officials seemed to be getting the algae problem under control, reports emerged that the expensive blue coating itself had begun to peel off. Chunks of debris reportedly floated to the surface like seaweed in a giant bowl of federal soup, prompting more jokes. However, Washington being Washington, a simple maintenance issue quickly took on political overtones. MAGA commentators and conspiracy theorists have accused Democrats and liberals of sabotaging the project. Others have theorized that hostile bureaucrats, environmental regulations, climate activists, rogue microbes, or various combinations thereof are in some way responsible. MAGA’s bosses were quick to catch on to the blame game, suggesting that a reporter had deliberately stripped off the coating, posting, “It’s a shame that radical left-wing lunatics, most likely Dumo cats, who have spent their entire lives trying to destroy our country, are free to do so.Meanwhile, crews deployed an impressive array of corrective measures, from vacuum systems to water treatment to filtration upgrades. Nanobubblers—devices designed to increase oxygen levels and improve water quality—entered the discussion, sounding less like infrastructure devices and more like characters in a Pixar movie. At various points, the rescue effort begins to resemble an episode involving the National Park Service, a pool maintenance company and a desperate chemistry teacher. Visitors to the National Mall watched the unfolding drama in fascination, and soon crowds were arriving. For President Trump, who has long cherished the capital’s visual spectacle and grand symbolism, the reflecting pool should serve as the sparkling patriotic centerpiece of the half-century celebration. Instead, it has become Washington’s most expensive and best-known marshland.
