LPA in Bangalore Rs 28 Cr, US $60,000 per annum: Indian students on F-1 visa ask which one is smarter to choose
A Reddit user asked if an LPA of Rs 28 per year in Bangalore is better than US$60,000 per year in the US.

$60,000 per annum is obviously higher than Rs 28 LPA, but the salary conversion can be misleading and given the US spend, the dollar option may not be profitable at all. An F-1 student explained the confusing situation he found himself in as he had two job options in front of him: a job in Bangalore, India that paid Rs. The Reddit user explained that he came to the United States to study for a master’s degree and found a job four months ago after struggling for a year. But he obtained H-1B status this year and is currently processing it. So on the one hand, he was lucky to get H-1B, but his salary was not very high in the United States. The Reddit user said he had always wanted to return to India and later the United States. He explained his current STEM OPT status, adding that he was worried about getting caught in the H-1B loop. The post went viral because it reflected two key things: Indians’ fear of H-1B after the Donald Trump administration changed the rules multiple times, and the U.S. job market, where a salary of $60,000 per year is quite low, which social media users believe is justified despite many claiming it is because the location is not Silicon Valley or New York, but Philadelphia. Most of the responses were in favor of Rs 28 LPA in Bangalore as the cost of living is still higher in Philadelphia. “60,000 in Philadelphia is the poverty line. You need at least 110 to 150,000. I would choose Bangalore and maybe come to the US later since you have H1b,” one person said.“Go to India. 60k is poverty in the US. 28lpa is generous in India,” suggested another. “No doubt 28LPA India. Unless you have a decent trajectory/confidence you can hit 100k+ in the US in the next year or so,” a third user wrote. But some Reddit users asked the student to give the US more time as 28LPA job opportunities from India will come again.
