According to the scene, the fire has been determined to be moderately fueled and has a moderate rate of spread.
“According to the first arriving unit, the 100-foot-by-100-foot vegetation fire was of light, flammable fuel and was spreading slowly. The response has been upgraded to a Level 1 alert,” the website states. It adds that law enforcement has been instructed to close both sides of Monk Road while the fire is brought under control.

“Per incident command, Escala Circle has been requested for five additional engines. CAL FIRE has also been requested for additional aircraft,” another update on the situation read. However, the authorities have not officially commented on the matter.

Later updates indicated that air support from CAL FIRE sought to extinguish the fire had been cancelled.
Council Member Raul Campillo shared Fire update. “I have been in contact with Chief Logan of SD Fire Rescue. Several crews (at least 4 engines and multiple brush drills) are working on the one acre fire with two helicopters in the air assisting. Please avoid the area as Friars Road will be closed in both directions along Fenton Parkway at River Run Drive. No structures are currently threatened. Thank you to our SDFD and firefighters for their quick response,” he wrote.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

Someone shared a photo of a street where a fire could be seen burning in the distance.
Others also expressed support. “Praying for you that they can put out the fire,” one person wrote, while another urged people to “stay safe.”

The person who posted the video wrote: “There is a fire northwest of the Fenton Parkway Costco that just started within the last 10 minutes. It is spreading very quickly.”
Another person shared a photo taken on the road while driving. The flames are more clearly visible in this photo.
“FYI, the fire is on the side of Highway 805 N, just above Mission Valley, not far from Fenton Parkway, Costco and Rio San Diego Apartments. Looks very close to the power towers. Looks like they are up there too, there are drops and fire crews, please stay safe. Hope everyone is okay and they will have the fire out soon,” they wrote, adding, “I’m heading to Mission Valley HomeGoods, I literally just saw water helicopters grabbing water from the river and flying overhead! ”
