Amazon Music has been available for free in India since its launch in 2018. But that’s about to change as the company launches Amazon Music Unlimited in India. The service was launched in the US in 2016 to compete with the likes of Apple Music and Spotify, and now, nearly a decade later, it has arrived in India.
What is Amazon Music Unlimited? How is it different from Amazon Music?
For those unfamiliar, Amazon Music Unlimited is Amazon’s premium music streaming service that offers users high-quality audio, ad-free listening, and offline downloads. Specifically, the service enables users to access audio quality in HD, Ultra HD and spatial audio. In addition to this, users can also get an ad-free listening experience, including music and podcasts. Amazon Music Unlimited also allows users to download offline.
Amazon Music, on the other hand, is bundled with an Amazon Prime subscription, giving users access to the company’s entire catalog of songs and podcasts. However, users will no longer have access to ad-free music and downloads for offline listening. This change will take effect on July 2, 2026. In addition, Amazon also confirmed that it will soon launch a free service in India, namely Amazon Music Free. This will give users access to Amazon’s full catalog of music and podcasts in an ad-supported format. This tier is exclusively for non-Prime members.
Once the service launches in India, the company will offer three tiers of music streaming service in India:
- Amazon Music Unlimited It requires a separate subscription and offers premium audio quality, unlimited downloads, Amazon’s entire music and podcast catalog, and ad-free streaming.
- Amazon Music It comes bundled with a Prime subscription, which provides access to Amazon’s entire catalog of music and podcasts, and offers ad-supported streaming with no downloads.
- amazon free music The service will be available to non-Prime members and will provide access to Amazon’s entire catalog of music and podcasts, as well as ad-supported streaming.
How much does an Amazon Music Unlimited subscription cost?
Amazon Music Unlimited is now available to all users in India. Prime members can try the service for free for six months. After the trial period ends, you will be able to purchase it at a discounted price $$99 per month, total $1,188 per year.
Non-Prime members can also try Amazon Music Unlimited with a three-month free trial. Once the trial period is over, they will have to pay $119 per month or $1,428 a year.
