SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Spokane County deputies have recovered a $70,000, 400-pound metal Tyrannosaurus rex statue that had been missing for months.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office received a tip about a similar statue that was riding on a black SUV and was posted on multiple social media platforms. This was deemed not to be the original statue, so the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office went on a “dinosaur hunt.”
On May 22, the Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip regarding the whereabouts of the stolen T. rex. The information states deputies are in an area nearly 30 minutes north of where the statue was originally removed.
With the “unsuspecting and uninvolved” landowner’s permission, deputies carefully dug and discovered the T. rex buried in the dirt.
Due to the size of the dinosaur, which was 3 1/2 feet long and weighed approximately 400 pounds, it had to be pulled out of the ground using a tow truck. The statue was later returned to his owners, who are currently working to repair the minor damage he sustained during his adventures.
Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the theft and no one has been arrested or charged.
At this time, it is unclear when the statue will be returned to its original location.
