SAN DIEGO – Police are inspecting an Islamic center in San Diego, California, after reports of a shooting around noon local time. Here’s what we know about the locations of the reported shootings.
Islamic Center of San Diego calls itself San Diego County’s largest mosque website.
“Our mission is to serve the religious needs of San Diego’s Muslim population and work with the larger community to serve, educate and better our country for the less fortunate,” the center’s website states.
The mosque also regularly hosts five daily prayers, Friday prayers and sermons, educational lectures, seminars and events for the Muslim community. The Islamic center also houses a school and playground.
The mosque was built in the 1990s according to designs by Robert E. Des Lauriers. According to Abu Bakr Siddiq Mosque, when it was just a mosque, it was originally called Abu Bakr Siddique Mosque chase church.
The center has approximately 5,000 congregational members and partners with other mosques in the greater San Diego area.
