All four crew members of two U.S. Navy fighter jets involved in a mid-air collision during an Idaho air show ejected safely, the Idaho Statesman reported.
The incident occurred during the Gunslingers Sky air show at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. Spectators witnessed two Navy aircraft collide during an aerial display.
The aircraft that collided was said to be a Navy Super Hornet or EA-18G Viking Growler participating in an air show demonstration, according to a report on the collision by the Idaho Statesman.
Four parachutes emerge after dramatic collision
Video taken by attendees appeared to show the planes making contact during a maneuver, followed by debris and black smoke appearing in the sky.
Social media videos and eyewitness videos circulating online showed at least four parachutes descending after the collision. Shortly after 1 p.m., an announcer told the crowd that all four Navy pilots had been “found safe.”
“We had four good parachutes. The crew was able to eject. They were one mile south of where the smoke was. The parachutes landed,” the announcer said, according to the Idaho Statesman.
