FC Barcelona beat rivals Real Madrid 2-0 at a packed Camp Nou to claim their 29th La Liga title, with Marcus Rashford making history in the process. The victory moved Barcelona 14 points clear at the top of La Liga with three games remaining, with coach Hansi Flick completing back-to-back league titles in his first two seasons in charge. Rashford achieves feat not seen since 1985
Rashford’s victory also made him the first British footballer to win La Liga with Barcelona in 41 years. It means Rashford becomes the first Englishman to achieve the feat since Barcelona’s rise into modern European dominance. Most notably, Gary Lineker spent three seasons at the club between 1986 and 1989 but failed to win the Spanish League title as Real Madrid dominated domestically during this period. Lineker still won trophies in Spain, including the 1988 Copa del Rey and the 1989 European Cup Winners’ Cup, but never won La Liga. For Rashford, this title represents his first career league title in any country. The 28-year-old has enjoyed a strong campaign in Spain since joining on loan from Spain. Rashford hints at staying at Barcelona
