Samsung’s upcoming foldable lineup is starting to take shape ahead of an expected summer launch, with new leaks suggesting the upcoming foldable could feature a modest update to its clamshell devices. New details about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8 suggest the company is focusing on design changes this year rather than a full hardware update.

Hinge updates and lighter build
According to Korean tipster Lanzuk, Samsung may introduce an improved hinge mechanism in the upcoming Flip model. This change is expected to bring the device’s weight down to around 180 grams, down from the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7’s approximately 188 grams. The update also makes the device easier to operate during daily use.
A redesign of the hinge may also help achieve a slimmer body. Early leaks put the dimensions at 166.8 x 75.4 x 6.6mm, suggesting a thinner profile when folded. At the same time, the phone may be slightly wider than its predecessor, which may affect how content displays on the screen. The report also mentions a slight reduction in “horizontal length,” but doesn’t clearly define whether this refers to thickness or overall shape.
A key highlight of the leak is the mention of a “crease-free design structure.” Foldable devices are often criticized for visible creases in the display. While recent versions have reduced its appearance, it hasn’t been completely removed. The new design approach suggests Samsung may be working to further minimize this issue in upcoming models.
Aside from these changes, the rest of the hardware is expected to remain largely unchanged. The report also states that the battery capacity, charging speed, and camera settings may be the same as the previous-generation model. This means incremental update cycles rather than major upgrades.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8: Release schedule (expected)
Additionally, the leak also hints at a possible price increase, citing rising costs associated with memory components. However, there is no official confirmation of pricing at this stage.
Samsung is expected to launch the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a new “Wide Fold” device at a launch event in July. The Fold series of devices is expected to follow a similar route, with limited design changes compared to its predecessor.
The rumored “wide fold” could introduce a different design approach to Samsung’s foldable lineup, potentially offering a wider range of display formats than the standard foldable range. More details about the device are expected to be revealed closer to launch.
While these early leaks outline Samsung’s direction for 2026, final specs and features won’t be confirmed until the company makes a formal announcement. For now, the focus still seems to be on improving existing designs rather than introducing a major shift in hardware.
