Iran attacks Strait of Hormuz again? UKMTO warns of mysterious attack on bulk carriers
“At this stage, we are not engaged in nuclear negotiations,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghay was quoted as saying by state media, an apparent reference to Iran’s proposal to shelve nuclear negotiations after the war. Iran’s 14-point proposal calls for the United States to lift sanctions, end naval blockades of Iranian ports, withdraw troops from the region and cease all hostilities, including Israeli actions in Lebanon, officials said.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he was reviewing the proposal but doubted it would lead to a deal, adding on social media that “they (Iran) have not paid a big enough price for what they have done to humanity and the world over the past 47 years since the Islamic Revolution”. At the same time, a cargo ship near the Strait of Hormuz was attacked by multiple small boats.
Iran proposes ending war within 30 days
According to Iranian state media, Iran’s latest proposal to the United States calls for resolving issues between the two countries within 30 days and aims to end the war rather than extend the ceasefire. U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday he was reviewing the proposal but expressed doubts that a deal could be reached, adding on social media that “they have not paid a big enough price for what they have done to humanity and the world over the past 47 years.”On Sunday, Iran said it had received a response from the United States to its offer for peace talks. Iranian state media reported that Washington had conveyed its response to Iran’s 14-point recommendations through Pakistan, and Tehran is currently reviewing them. There was no immediate confirmation of the U.S. response from Washington or Islamabad.“At this stage, we are not engaged in nuclear negotiations,” state media quoted Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghayi as saying, an apparent reference to Iran’s proposal to put nuclear talks on hold until the war ends and both sides agree to lift an opposition blockade of shipping in the Gulf.On Saturday, Trump said he had not yet reviewed the specific language of the Iran peace offer but that he would likely reject it.The United States and Israel suspended their bombing campaign against Iran four weeks ago and U.S. and Iranian officials held a round of talks. But attempts to convene further meetings have so far failed.Iran submitted its latest proposal on Thursday, and a senior Iranian official confirmed on Saturday that Tehran wanted to end the war and resolve the shipping standoff first, while leaving talks on Iran’s nuclear program until later.Although Trump initially said on Friday that he was not satisfied with the proposal, he said on Saturday that he was still considering it. “They told me the concept of the deal. They will now give me the exact wording,” he told reporters. When asked about the possibility of resuming strikes against Iran, the US president responded: “I don’t want to say that. I mean, I can’t tell reporters. If they misbehave, if they do bad things, we will see it now. But it can happen. “The proposal to postpone nuclear talks to a later stage appears to contradict Washington’s repeated demands that Iran accept tight limits on its nuclear program until the war is over.Washington wants Tehran to give up its stockpile of more than 400 kilograms of highly enriched uranium, which the United States says could be used to make bombs. Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, although it is willing to discuss some restrictions in exchange for sanctions relief, as it accepted in the 2015 deal that Trump abandoned.Iranian media stated that the 14-point proposal includes withdrawing troops from nearby areas, lifting the blockade, releasing frozen assets, paying compensation, lifting sanctions, ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, and establishing a new control mechanism in the Strait of Hormuz.
