United Airlines Flight 1980 Reportedly Hit by ‘Drone’ Over San Diego; Terrifying ATC Audio Surfaces

Mirror The Washington Times reported that the flight involved in the accident was UAL Flight 1980, a Boeing 737. The flight was originally bound for San Diego International Airport from San Francisco.

In the audio, which has been shared on the ATC app, the pilot can be heard informing ground control about the collision after landing. There have been no reports of any injuries or damage.

“Ground 1980, do you know where Broadway Robin is near runway 27?” the pilot said. “We hit a drone,” the pilot can be heard saying in the audio. “About – probably around 3,000 feet.”

What we know about the ‘drone’ craze

The object in question has not yet been identified, although reports suggest the plane was likely struck by a drone. In the audio, the pilot can be heard saying it was a “small red object” that the pilot could not clearly identify.

“It’s too small,” the pilot said in the audio. “I can’t tell. It’s red. It’s shiny.”
