Oceanfront subway shooting: Gunfire breaks out in Washington, D.C., teen injured; video shows heavy police presence

On the evening of Saturday, April 18, a teen was injured in a shooting outside the new youth curfew area in the 300 block of Southwest M Street. The victim was shot near the Waterfront Metro and is conscious and breathing, WUSA 9 reports.

District 1 officers responded to reports of a shooting around 9:05 p.m. and found a teenage male suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire Department and emergency personnel transported him to an area hospital for treatment. He suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

A video shared on X showed a heavy police presence in the area, including D.C. police, Metro police and the National Guard.

What we know so far

Police have not yet revealed what caused the shooting or who was responsible. The age of the victim has not been revealed.

As of 9:56 p.m., 3rd and 4th streets were closed due to police activity. Pedestrian traffic is also affected as the police department is still investigating the scene. However, the Waterfront Metro Station remains open and trains are running normally.
