Nguyen Le Tu, a 20-year-old student in Hanoi, is being hailed a hero after he rescued seven people from a burning building in a dramatic late-night incident. On March 24, 2026, Tu, a student at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, was returning home from the gym when he noticed flames and thick smoke coming from a six-story residential building in Linh Nam area. He then relied on instinct, courage and coolness to enter the burning building without protective gear and then made a series of split-second decisions that saved multiple lives.
Real heroes bravely enter burning buildings
According to reports, the fire broke out at night and smoke quickly spread to multiple floors. Visibility dropped rapidly and several residents were trapped inside with no clear way out.Smoke poses the greatest danger as it can disorientate the occupants and restrict breathing for several minutes. Without immediate access to the fire exit, those inside were in serious danger.Recognizing the dangers of entering through the main entrance, Tu climbed onto the roof to find an alternative entrance. Finding an opening, he forced his way in, making his way through the smoky interior.To cope, he used a waterlogged shirt as a makeshift breathing filter, allowing him to stay in it longer.
