Sanzhou Samson He was named ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March for his outstanding performance in the knockout stages of the 2026 T20 World Cup. The honor marked Samson’s first win at the award, capping off a remarkable campaign that culminated with India lifting the trophy. What makes his achievement even more remarkable is the journey behind it. Samson started the match as a substitute but seized his opportunity when he was named in the XI for the Super Eights against Zimbabwe in Chennai. From there, he produced one of the most memorable comebacks of the tournament. He scored a stunning unbeaten 97 against West Indies for the first time under pressure in a must-win Super Eights match in Kolkata. He then scored 89 consecutive runs in the semi-final against England in Mumbai and the final against New Zealand in Ahmedabad. His consistency and impact in crucial matches played a key role in India’s title defense at home and also earned him the Player of the Tournament award. Looking back on the recognition, Samson talked about how special this moment in his journey was. “Winning the ICC Player of the Month award is an incredible feeling, especially at the most memorable stage of my cricket journey. Contributing to India’s victory in the Men’s T20 World Cup was truly a dream come true and it took a while to fully appreciate the significance of that moment,” ICC quoted Samson as saying. “This is an exciting era for Indian cricket with tremendous talent across all fronts. I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given and also grateful to my teammates and coaching staff for their trust and support in enabling me to perform at my best,” he added. The 31-year-old Samson’s resurgence on the biggest stage not only defined Team India’s championship run but also marked a major turning point in his international career.
