How do creators make money on Facebook and Instagram and what has changed?

There are many ways to make money on Facebook and Instagram, including subscriptions, bonuses, gifts, and badges. However, sponsored posts and affiliate links remain one of the most popular ways for creators to make money on Facebook and Instagram. However, these come with a caveat. Until now, Meta has limited the ways in which creators can steer fans away from the platform to purchase the products they recommend. As a result, creators rely on third-party “link bio” services to guide their followers toward products they endorse.

But that’s changing now, with Meta announcing that creators can now tag affiliate products directly in Reels and posts on Facebook and Instagram. With this update, creators will no longer need to link to a bio, swipe up, and share a product’s shopping link in the comments to direct their followers to the products they recommend. Instead, they will be able to share direct links to recommended products in reels and posts. According to reports, creators will be able to share links to up to 30 products in a single Reel.

Creator’s Perspective: How does it work?

Meta says creators can now connect their affiliate program accounts to Facebook and Instagram and then tag products they endorse through Reels and direct links in posts. Followers can then click on these links to visit product pages and purchase products they like. Creators will receive commissions from affiliate partners on all qualifying purchases.

Creator’s perspective: Who can use it?

As of now, this new feature is rolling out in select countries. Amazon is rolling out the feature in the U.S., while Shopee is rolling out the feature in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Brazil and Taiwan, Meta said. The company will add more affiliate partners and countries to this list in the coming months.
