A polygamist sect leader who was sentenced to 50 years in prison for child sex crimes was found guilty Friday of state child abuse charges in connection with three young girls found in a trailer he was dragging across Arizona.Authorities were alerted to the trailer in August 2022 after someone noticed small fingers reaching through a crack in the door. Police stopped Samuel Bateman’s vehicle near Flagstaff and found three girls, ages 11 to 14, in an enclosed space with a couch, camping chairs and a makeshift toilet.In the federal case, Bateman was convicted of forcing a girl as young as 9 to perform sex acts and conspiring to kidnap a child in state care. His crimes are the subject of a Netflix documentary series.Bateman previously claimed to have more than 20 “spiritual wives,” including 10 minors. In his own defense, he told jurors he would never hurt someone he loved. He admitted he knew the girls had spent hours in a hot trailer with poor ventilation, but downplayed the severity.“I just believe in myself as a driver,” Bateman said. “Every time we jump in that car, I pray to God to bless me.”He claimed he believed the girls had left the trailer when the car was parked, and when police pulled him over he was “very shocked” to find them still inside.Prosecutor Eric Ruchensky told the jury: “It’s common sense not to carry people in a trailer designed for freight on a hot day without ventilation,” prosecutor Eric Ruchensky told the jury.Bateman acted as his own attorney in the state trial, although the judge barred any mention of his federal conviction. He made the point himself multiple times, prompting a judge to throw out the remarks.The jury took about 40 minutes to convict Bateman on all three counts of child abuse. Each was sentenced to a mandatory prison term of four to eight years. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for August 25.
Bateman, a self-proclaimed prophet, traveled across several Western states to establish branches of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a polygamous group historically based in the border towns of Colorado City and Hildale, Arizona and Utah.He was a trusted follower of former sect leader Warren Jeffs, who is currently serving a life sentence in Texas for child sex abuse.Mainline Mormonism abandoned polygamy in 1890, and it remains strictly prohibited today.The polygamous sect’s control over border towns has been greatly weakened. Atomberg believes its new Zenova Mixer Grinder can restore some of the texture. The company claims its coarse mode can recreate the consistency of stone-ground chutney while offering the convenience of a modern mixer grinder. It was enough to make me curious and skeptical. I took the time to test the Zenova’s performance, rough mode, build quality, and day-to-day usability to see if these claims hold up in a real kitchen.
what’s in the box
The Atomberg Zenova mixer grinder comes with a compact base and four stainless steel jars – a 1.5L liquidizer jar, a 1L multi-purpose jar, a 0.5L chutney and spice jar and a 0.5L chopper jar. It’s available in black, burgundy, pearl white, and several finishes with brass or copper trim, though the color doesn’t affect anything but its appearance.
One design choice worth noting: There are no vents in the motor housing. BLDC motors don’t require the airflow for cooling that standard AC motors rely on, so Atomberg sealed the body. The bonus is that over time, flour and chutney don’t get into the motor, which is a common failure point with traditional mixers. The trade-off is that the lack of a visible airflow path makes it more difficult to tell from the outside how hard the motor is working at any given moment; you’re relying on LED indicators rather than intuition.
Atomberg Zenova Mixer Grinder Review: Performance, Motor and Features
The Atomberg Zenova mixer grinder has 550W BLDC power, which is equivalent to a 1000W AC motor. Wattage and effective grinding power are not the same thing, so it’s not an unreasonable statement, but it’s also not something to accept just because a brand says so. The advantage of a BLDC motor is variable, efficient speed control rather than raw power; it can run 2,000 RPM tasks at much lower power than an AC motor would need to get down to that range. Whether this translates into “1000W equivalent” performance for real tough ingredients (dried turmeric, whole spices, hard legumes) is the real part to be tested, not the marketing line.
In practice, both turmeric sticks and dry masala are ground without audible motor straining sounds or a burnt smell, which is a reasonable standard for cleanup. This proves that the motor is more than capable of handling tough ingredients. By itself, this doesn’t prove it’s a match for a 1000W motor in every use case – short test cycles won’t validate heavier, longer-duration loads.
Coarse mode: what it actually does and doesn’t do
Coarse mode runs at about 5,000 RPM, well below the motor’s 18,000 RPM limit, and its purpose is to stop grinding before everything becomes even and smooth. Testing the same ingredients on the regular speed setting, the difference was measurable: The chutney made in coarse mode retained small pieces of coconut and chilli, rather than becoming a single blended paste. This part of the claim was tested.
What it does is not exactly replicate a stone grind. The silbatta works by squeezing and shearing in an irregular human rhythm. Coarse mode still has the blade spinning at a fixed lower speed, producing a rougher texture, but not quite the same. Calling it “sil-batta-like” is more accurate than most such marketing comparisons, but it’s an approximation, not a replacement. It’s worth knowing before paying extra specifically for this feature.
For everyday tasks like idli batter, wet grinding and dal for vada batter, the Zenova performed within the expected range of a mid-to-high-end blender. The batter is smooth and there is no significant heating, which is important for later fermentation. The pulse button jumps the motor up to 18,000 RPM for a short period of time, useful for thicker loads where standard speed settings are a little difficult. None of this is exceptional. It is qualified, which is a more relevant standard for kitchen appliances used daily.
More important features than expected
The more convincing aspects of this product are its security and usability. The jar lock system, fault alarm, and restart protection are not eye-catching features, but they solve common annoyances associated with traditional mixer grinders. These additional features make the device feel more modern without fundamentally changing the way it is used.
That said, electronic systems also introduce additional points of failure compared to purely mechanical designs. Long-term reliability will ultimately determine whether these features continue to be advantageous after years of use.

The 0.5-liter chopper tank automatically limits the motor to around 2,000 RPM when locked, eliminating the need for any manual speed selection. The result is chopped onions and tomatoes that retain their shape rather than turning into a wet, semi-blend mixture that would normally be accomplished using a grinding jar for the same task. This is a real functional difference, not a cosmetic one; the automatic speed limiter feature really makes a difference here. However, it’s a small jar, suitable for single-meal sizes rather than batch preparations, and it doesn’t replace a knife for anything other than basic dicing.
Build, Noise and Limitations
Noise levels are lower than older AC motor blenders, although “quiet” is a relative term; a hum is still audible at the highest speed setting. At full rpm, the base feels stable on the counter, without the vibration-induced movement that some lighter blenders exhibit.
These limitations are straightforward rather than dramatic. If your kitchen outlet isn’t close to your preferred counter space, the cord may be shorter than ideal. The smaller size of the 1 liter multi-purpose jar makes it suitable for batch cooking in large households, which means larger quantities need to be refilled more frequently. The overall feature set (apart from the rough mode) doesn’t significantly exceed what’s offered by competing mixers in the same price range.
final verdict
The Atomberg Zenova is one of the few mixer-grinders trying to rethink a product category that has remained largely unchanged for years. Not every innovation here will be equally useful for every home, and depending on cooking habits, some features may be more relevant than others.
Its strongest argument isn’t raw performance, but overall user experience. Kibble mode provides a real point of differentiation, while safety and convenience features add a layer of refinement not often seen in this category.
However, buyers should view this as a premium mixer grinder with a different philosophy rather than a direct replacement for traditional high-power models. Zenova succeeds in bringing fresh ideas to the market, but whether those ideas are reasonably priced ultimately comes down to how much users value convenience, control, and modern design.

Roger Marshall says green card cap unfair to Indians
The Kansas senator made the remarks at an event organized by the India Foundation Indian Diaspora Studies. Marshall said the current green card system punishes people because of where they were born, not what they did.
“We tell the hardest-working immigrants in the world that this line has been 70 years old. Not because of anything you did, but because so many of you came from the same place,” Marshall said.
He described per-country green card restrictions as “one of the greatest injustices” in the United States and said he would continue to raise the issue through legal and practical efforts.
According to current U.S. law, the proportion of family-sponsored and employment-based green cards issued by any country each year cannot exceed 7%. Since applications from India have exceeded this limit for years, there has been a huge backlog.
For many Indian professionals, the wait is excruciatingly long. In certain employment categories, Indians who receive green cards in 2026 typically began applying for green cards more than a decade ago, around 2013 or 2014.

The successful implementation of the framework will pave the way for stable and peaceful relations between the two countries and enable the redeployment of the Israel Defense Forces from Lebanese territory.
According to the security annex, the Lebanese Armed Forces will gradually assume full and effective security responsibilities in the pilot zone as part of broader efforts to achieve Lebanese national arms monopoly and sovereign territorial control, which will serve as a mechanism for the phased and verified redeployment of the IDF and the deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces. The Israel Defense Forces and the Lebanese Air Force have agreed to establish two initial test areas, with future test areas to be agreed upon by mutual agreement. Upon confirmation of the successful disarmament of non-state armed groups and dismantling of their infrastructure in these areas, the Lebanese Armed Forces will assume full and effective security responsibilities in these areas, internationally supported reconstruction efforts will begin, and Lebanese civilians will be able to safely return to these areas under the exclusive control of the Lebanese state authorities. The United States intends to work closely with both countries to verify and support this process.
The Government of Lebanon reaffirms its firm and irreversible commitment to the restoration and exercise of full sovereignty over all its territories. The Lebanese government will reestablish the state’s monopoly on the use of force, achieve the complete and verifiable disarmament of all non-state armed groups, and ensure that these groups have no military or security role or armed capabilities anywhere in Lebanon. The Government of Lebanon hereby requests the support of international partners, particularly Arab partners, under the leadership of the United States, to achieve this outcome.
The Israeli government emphasizes that its military operations in Lebanon are entirely the result of attacks, threats and hostile intentions by non-state armed groups, especially Hezbollah. The Israeli government stresses that eliminating this threat, through the disarmament and disbandment of such groups throughout Lebanon and additional security arrangements agreed upon by both countries, will eliminate any need for future IDF military operations or presence in Lebanon. Accordingly, the Israeli government declared that it had no territorial ambitions in Lebanon.
The Government of Lebanon, in accordance with the Lebanese Charter United Nations And in the exercise of its sovereignty, it reaffirms that its security forces have the exclusive responsibility for the security and defense of Lebanon and that the Lebanese government has the exclusive sovereign authority to wage war and peace. The Government of Lebanon rejects any assertion of the use of force by any State or non-State actor on its behalf without its express authorization and reiterates that any assertion by any State or non-State actor of exercising a military or security role is unlawful and contrary to Lebanon’s national interests, in accordance with the decisions of the Government of Lebanon.
The Governments of Lebanon and Israel affirm that nothing in this Framework shall prevent them from exercising their inherent right of self-defence, recognized in the Charter of the United Nations and consistent with applicable international law, and reiterate that no third party may exercise this right on their behalf. The two governments committed to establishing a military coordination group with the support and participation of the United States to ensure the full implementation of the framework.
The two countries affirmed their common goal of establishing a secure, reconstructed Lebanon under full national sovereignty, in which no non-state armed group poses a threat to Israel, Lebanon or the citizens of either country. Furthermore, both countries recognize that restoring security in southern Lebanon, the safe return of civilians, and the security of communities in northern Israel through the deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces is critical to long-term stability and peace.
The Government of Lebanon is committed to implementing a rigorous, performance-based plan that will give the Lebanese Armed Forces the ability to exercise full military and security control within Lebanon in accordance with security arrangements agreed within the framework of negotiations, as well as to disarm all non-state armed groups and exercise effective authority throughout Lebanon. The Lebanese government welcomes the United States’ willingness to support such efforts and recognizes that any new U.S. assistance will be strictly contingent on verifiable milestones, full transparency, proven results, and ongoing oversight. This effort will enable Lebanon to re-establish its sovereignty in a safe and orderly manner and will also contribute to broader stability and security throughout the Middle East.
The United States will also independently convene international partners to actively support the Lebanese government in rebuilding the country, repairing infrastructure, restoring the economy, and creating opportunities for prosperity. This is expected to include the mobilization of significant reconstruction and humanitarian aid, economic recovery plans and investment initiatives for Lebanon so that it can recover from years of conflict and provide a better future for all its citizens.
Lebanon and the United States commit to preventing the flow of funds to any entity, organization or individual associated with non-State armed groups and to taking existing legal measures to prohibit the activities of any such entity, organization or individual. The Lebanese government is unequivocally committed to preventing the flow of reconstruction funds to non-state armed groups and related entities.
Once the framework is signed, the two countries will work to establish a working group to draft a comprehensive comprehensive peace and security agreement. Additionally, to achieve the goals of the Framework, both governments will immediately establish a complementary track of continued direct engagement, facilitated by the United States. Both governments commit to moving forward in good faith until a comprehensive and lasting peace is achieved that brings security, stability and prosperity to the Israeli and Lebanese peoples.

Anthropic says it has received approval to restore access to Mythos 5 for some organizations

Memorandum PM-602-0199 provides USCIS officials with revised guidance that could impact millions of pending adjustment of status (AOS) applications. AOS is a process for foreigners already in the United States to apply for permanent residence from home, skipping interviews at foreign consulates.
“Aliens who are temporarily in the United States and want a green card must return to their home country to apply, unless there are extraordinary circumstances,” U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services spokesman Zach Kahler told reporters the day after the memo was released.
The AOS is the final step in the green card application process for foreign nationals already in the United States.
The AOS is an important tool for employers because it enables valuable workers to complete the green card application process without the hassle and danger of traveling abroad and dealing with consular proceedings.
In a new update, however, the memo instructs USCIS officials to treat adjustment of status as a matter of “discretion and administrative grace” rather than an automatic right.
No new legislation is introduced in this memorandum. Instead, it reiterates that the AOS is always discretionary and then instructs officers to more thoroughly consider all relevant factors when making an application decision.
The memorandum affects different visa categories unevenly. The most important difference is whether the employee holds a dual-intent visa.
Dual intent means that the visa holder is legally allowed to simultaneously hold temporary nonimmigrant status and seek permanent residence in the United States. U.S. immigration law allows H-1B and L-1 visa holders to have dual intent. This was acknowledged in the memo.
The most obvious examples are H-1B and L-1 holders, as the law has long recognized that they may come to work with the intention of staying. The document does not dispute this; in fact, it acknowledges that dual intent is compatible with modification.
The non-dual intent visa category may be more targeted.
When TN, E-3, F-1 OPT and J-1 visa holders enter the country, they expressly or implicitly indicate that they will leave when their allowed time expires. The memo, citing congressional intent that nonimmigrants should leave the country rather than seek permanent residence from within, appears to specifically target this category.
What will USCIS officers review?
USCIS officials were told to consider a range of variables when deciding whether to approve an adjustment of status application, based on the advice of immigration attorneys who have read the memo and have used it in the field.
These include:
1. Violation of immigration laws or terms of previous visa status
2. Fraud or submit fraudulent claims to USCIS or any other government organization
3. Behavior inconsistent with the purpose of the visa
4. Remain in the United States after the period of stay allowed
5. Apply for an AOS from the United States when it is possible to apply for an AOS through overseas consular processing
