Vance’s trip to Switzerland comes days after tensions rose in the region as the Trump administration works to maintain diplomatic ties between the United States and Iran.

President Donald Trump warned Iran against supporting further attacks through its proxies in Lebanon. During the talks in Switzerland, Vance said Trump still sees an opportunity to “turn a new page” with Tehran if it complies with the terms of the evolving framework agreement.

Qatar, along with Pakistani and Swiss officials, plays an important mediating role in transforming the U.S.-Iran ceasefire framework into a more detailed political settlement.
