The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado was seen over Newton, Illinois at 4:12 PM CDT. The tornado was moving northeast at 35 mph and remained on the ground until 4:30 PM CDT. A large tornado was spotted near Newton in Jasper County, and residents in Willow Mountain and surrounding areas are urged to take shelter immediately.
The storm warning extends to west-central Crawford County and eastern Jasper County, including Yale, Sam Parr State Park, Hunter City and the Sam Parr State Fish and Wildlife Area.
A video shared by weather account Max Velocity appeared to show the storm moving northeast through Jasper County, with a clear tornado on the ground.
