West London fire kills 3 people; firefighters battled for more than two hours

Three men died in a fire that broke out at a single-storey pavilion in White City, west London, on Saturday night, according to the London Fire Brigade (LFB).Firefighters rescued three men from the burning building on New Zealand Road when the blaze broke out shortly before 7pm local time. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and the third victim was taken to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

100 firefighters, 15 engines deployed

LFB launched a large-scale emergency response and sent about 100 firefighters and 15 fire trucks to fight the fire. Crews from North Kensington, Acton, Chiswick and nearby fire stations were mobilized after multiple emergency calls were received reporting the incident.Firefighters managed to control the blaze at 9:25 p.m., but it had destroyed more than half of the pavilion.

The reason is under investigation

LFB Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne confirmed specialist fire investigators were working with the Metropolitan Police to establish the cause of the fire.“Sadly, three people died in a fire on New Zealand Road in White City,” Goulburn said. “The fire involved a single-storey pavilion and more than half the structure was damaged.”

Police are working to identify the victim

The Metropolitan Police said officers attended the scene and are assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities are also working to identify the victim and formally notify his family.The incident occurred near Loftus Road, home of Queens Park Rangers Football Club, and caused a major emergency response and local concern.
