The remark drew laughter from other leaders on the final day of talks at the Group of Seven summit.

What happened at the G7 meeting?

At the time of the incident, the United States, Canada, FranceGermany, Italy, Japan and Britain met to discuss a range of global issues, including a proposed deal to limit Iran’s nuclear ambitions and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump arrived after other leaders had gathered and joked, “I’m the boss,” drawing laughter from those in attendance. Leaders from India, South Korea, Kenya and Brazil also attended the summit.

The reported exchange sparked reactions online, with supporters and critics offering widely differing views on Trump’s remarks. “He is hated by the most powerful man on earth, free people and the mainstream media,” one supporter wrote.

Another user commented: “They’re all waiting for him…I love it…”

Some users believed Trump’s stance justified the concern over his arrival. “Well, he’s the boss,” one commenter wrote.

Others were less impressed. “He’s not the damn boss, I’m glad it was a joke.”

Another commenter added: “The only person in this room who thinks Donald Trump is doing a great job is Donald Trump.”

G7 leaders back Iran deal

The exchange came as G7 leaders expressed support for an interim deal between Washington and Tehran.

In a statement cited by Mirror America, the two leaders described the deal as “a historic opportunity to prevent Iran from acquiring any nuclear weapons and to counter threats associated with its regional and ballistic activities.”

The statement added that member states were “ready to contribute to its implementation,” although neither the White House nor Iranian officials have publicly released the text of the deal.

Trump later defended the proposed deal, saying: “It says this: Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. It will not buy, develop a nuclear weapon – it will not have a nuclear weapon. I would say that’s about 99.9 percent of what I want.”

A key focus of the agreement is reopening Strait of HormuzBefore the conflict began, about a fifth of the world’s oil and gas trade passed through this important shipping route.

In addition to the Iran deal, G7 leaders also discussed artificial intelligence, economic growth and concerns about global trade competition.
