According to military police and witnesses, a 21-year-old woman in Limeira, Basilica, jumped to her death from a height of about 40 meters without a safety rope during a bungee jumping activity.Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, a graduate in physical education and sports management, died at the site of the “Ponte do Esqueleto” (Bridge of Skulls) in the interior of São Paulo state, famous for extreme sports.The accident happened on Saturday morning. According to the Gendarmerie, people at the scene reported that safety equipment was not properly secured before the jump. The young woman fell about 40 meters from the platform and suffered multiple injuries. Paramedics and firefighters confirmed she died at the scene.Shortly before the jump, Freitas posted a message on her Instagram Story. “Who was that crazy guy who made me jump off a bridge?” she wrote in a joking tone. Her Instagram profile was deleted hours after her death.She used to share snapshots of her daily life on social media, as well as posts related to physical activities, nature and happiness. She is a recent graduate of Physical Education and Sports Management and a resident of Jandilla, Greater São Paulo.

The incident was caught on video. Video shows members of the team responsible for the event bringing the young woman onto the platform. Immediately after she was launched, people could be heard shouting “Guys, rope!” as they realized the safety equipment had not been attached.According to the Gendarmerie, the equipment was not properly secured, causing it to fall and injure several people. Attempts were made to provide first aid at the scene, but medics confirmed she died en route.Freitas’ fiancé became ill upon arriving at the scene and also required medical attention. He was taken to a hospital, according to police.The gendarmerie reported that the two perpetrators fled the scene but were found with the help of an Agia helicopter during a search of the wooded area. A total of six people were reportedly arrested in connection with the incident.The case has been handed over to the Limeira Second Police District for investigation. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, including who was responsible for securing safety equipment and whether proper protocols were followed.
