Ministry of Education clarifies that UAE students can retake exams remotely under certain circumstances

The UAE Ministry of Education has clarified the circumstances under which students can retake exams remotely, as well as the steps schools must take when technical issues disrupt centralized electronic exams.According to the Ministry of Education, remote retakes can be approved for students who are unable to take the exam in person due to special circumstances. According to Gulf Today, these include determined individuals who are unable to sit for exams in person, students receiving medical treatment in or outside the UAE, students traveling abroad for legitimate reasons, and minors detained in youth care centres. The ministry said such arrangements require approval by the school administration in coordination with the General Education Examinations and Assessment Department. The guidance also outlines procedures for dealing with technical difficulties during exams. If a student encounters technical issues or is unable to access a computer required for centralized electronic testing, it is the school’s responsibility to resolve the issue during the exam and ensure that the student is able to complete the exam. The ministry said schools can provide available computer equipment or allow students to use school computer labs to take exams. If the technical issue cannot be resolved after taking all necessary steps, the student’s details will be recorded in the make-up system so that they can sit for the assessment at a later date. The clarification is part of the Department for Education’s FAQ guidance for students and parents on exam procedures and support measures.
