Pakistan bombs Afghanistan again: Taliban claims 13 killed, 11 of them children

Afghanistan on Wednesday accused Pakistan of launching new air strikes on its territory, saying the attacks killed at least 13 people, mostly children, and wounded 14 others.ALSO READ | ‘Carnage dressed up as military operation’: India condemns Pakistan attacks in Afghanistan at UN Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for Afghanistan’s Taliban-led regime, said the attacks hit Khost, Kunar and Paktika provinces. “Crime. Last night, the Pakistani army once again violated Afghan airspace and bombed civilian homes in Kunar, Khost and Paktika provinces,” Mujahid posted on X. He added: “These attacks resulted in the deaths of 11 children, a woman and an elderly person, and injured 14 others, including women and children. We strongly condemn this humanitarian crime and act of aggression,” he said. Pakistan did not immediately acknowledge the attack. The accusations come amid broader regional tensions, including renewed U.S.-Iran hostilities in the Middle East and unrest in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, where protests have turned violent. The two countries have been engaged in months of cross-border conflict that has killed hundreds of people since Afghanistan launched retaliatory attacks in late February following Pakistani airstrikes. Temporary ceasefires stopped fighting at times but did not last. Islamabad accuses Kabul of harboring militants, especially Islamic MovementTaliban Pakistan (TTP), saying it carried out the attack in Pakistan. The group is independent but allied with the Afghan Taliban, which has ruled Afghanistan since taking power after a U.S.-led troop withdrawal in 2021. Kabul denies the accusation.(With AP input)
