Dalton Eatherly, better known online as “Chud the Builder,” remains in custody at the Montgomery County Jail in Clarksville, Tennessee, while facing attempted murder charges in connection with the shooting death of Joshua Fox outside the Montgomery County Courthouse. The live streamer’s claim that prison officials took his Bible and refused to return it is now drawing attention for a different reason. The allegation surfaced via a social media post shared on June 7, 2026, which was later forwarded to Chud the Builder’s official X account.According to a statement from Dalton Eatherly, shared on X by on-the-spot reporter Tayler Hansen, the Bible was taken from him after he was released from solitary confinement. Iserley claims prison staff replaced the physical Bible with a tablet, but the tablet frequently crashed and lost power, making it difficult for him to read the Bible. He also claimed that requests to retract the Bible were denied. So far, prison officials have not publicly responded to the claims.

Dalton Etherly says Montgomery County jail staff refused request to return Bibles

In a statement shared online, Dalton Iserley said he studied the Bible every day while in detention and did not understand why the Bible was taken away.“I asked very nicely and politely and even offered to pay whatever amount they wanted for a physical Bible, but for some reason I had been denied access to the Bible for several weeks,” the statement read. “The administrator, Captain Oakes, sent me an all-caps response with clear frustration and vindictiveness indicating clear malicious interference with my religious studies.”He also claimed that another prisoner nearby had access to a religious text and argued that not giving him a Bible violated his religious freedom. The post was later forwarded to Chud the Builder’s X account. His fiancée wrote that Etherly had given her access to the account and wanted to share the news because he wanted his Bible returned. The controversy comes as Ethely remains incarcerated for the May 13 shooting death of disabled black veteran Joshua Fox. Israel allegedly shot Foxx multiple times after an altercation outside the Montgomery County Courthouse, CNN reported. After the incident, Iserley went live and described his version of events. During court proceedings, his bail was initially set at $1.25 million and later lowered to $1 million. On June 3, a judge refused to lower the tax rate further. At that hearing, YouTuber Alex Rosen offered to post $100,000 in bond. However, Judge William Goodman III rejected the offer, saying, “I’m not going to let him get into the bonding business.” As of the time of publication, Dalton Etherly remains incarcerated in the Montgomery County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
