U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday stressed the conditions of an Iran peace deal, saying no sanctions would be lifted or assets frozen until a peace deal was reached.Asked in a recent interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” whether he would consider unfreezing the assets later, if not immediately, Trump responded: “Yes. If they do well, if they do well, we’ll start talking. Yes.” Trump also said he was not asking Lebanon to be part of a short-term deal with Tehran.Trump earlier predicted that the conflict would end “very soon” with just 100 days left. Although the ceasefire came into effect on April 8, comprehensive negotiations have repeatedly stalled and a permanent agreement remains elusive.Meanwhile, earlier on Friday, Trump said Iran had not yet agreed to U.S.-backed proposals aimed at ending the conflict, attributing the delay to the resolve of the country’s leadership.“They are strong, they are proud, and there are things they never thought they would do, but they have to do. They have no choice, and it takes a while,” Trump said. The U.S. president has argued that Iran has not faced enough consequences for its actions over decades and said the issue should have been addressed earlier.“You’re talking about 47 years of doing whatever they want. This should have been done a long time ago. This should have been done by another president or another country,” he added.
