LEGO set is a replica of one of Europe’s iconic landmarks.
WASHINGTON — Lego has unveiled its largest Lego set yet, containing more than 12,000 bricks.
The toymaker has announced the launch of its latest architectural masterpiece, a 12,060-piece replica of Barcelona’s iconic Sagrada Familia. When completed, the LEGO model will stand two feet tall and recreate the church’s towering spiral tower and colorful stained glass windows.
The conference was held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of architect Antoni Gaudí.
“Designed to reflect the scale and spirit of Gaudí’s vision, the set offers builders an immersive way to explore the architecture of one of the most complex and famous structures ever built,” LEGO said in a press release.
The LEGO set is designed to echo the stained glass window effect, allowing light to pass through the cathedral replica like a real church.
“We felt a deep responsibility to do justice to the Sagrada Familia with this design,” LEGO Architecture designer Rok Žgalin Kobe said in a statement. “Our goal was to realize Gaudi’s vision with the utmost respect, capturing the rhythm of the cathedral’s construction, its extraordinary complexity and ambition, and transforming it into an immersive architectural experience.” “Not only is this the largest LEGO set ever built, it is a model of one of the most ambitious works of architecture in the world. Balancing scale and precision while remaining true to a living monument that has evolved over more than a century was a unique design challenge that we are incredibly proud of.”
How much does a LEGO Sagrada Familia set cost?
The set will be available globally on November 1 and will retail for $799.99. It can be pre-ordered on the LEGO website.
