LONDON, England — Anthony Head, the British actor best known for his roles in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Ted Russo,” has died at the age of 72.

Hyde’s daughters told the Press Association news agency that the actor “passed away peacefully from complications of pneumonia, surrounded by his family”.

The performer became well-known to British television audiences in the 1980s for playing a romantic couple in a series of Nestlé instant coffee commercials.

Hyde rose to fame in the United States as librarian Rupert Giles, the mentor to the title character in the supernatural series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which aired from 1997 to 2003.

He most recently played Rupert Mannion, the vicious ex-husband of Hannah Waddingham’s Rebecca, in “Ted Russo.”

“Our grief is far greater than the hole he left behind, but we know his legacy will live on, in the shows he was a part of and in the viewers who loved them,” his daughters said. “How lucky we are to know we get to watch him do what he loved even though he is no longer with us.”
