LEGO launches largest ever set with over 12,000 bricks

The replica of Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia is priced at nearly $800 and is available to pre-order now ahead of its official launch in November.

BILLUND, Denmark — LEGO has officially unveiled the largest set in the company’s history: a 12,060-piece replica of Barcelona’s iconic cathedral, the Sagrada Familia.

The suit is now Available for reservation Ahead of release on November 1st.

The Lego Architecture set, which costs $799.99, is available in Barcelona as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of architect Antoni Gaudí’s death. Construction of the real Sagrada Familia began in 1882 and remained unfinished until Gaudi’s death in 1926. Earlier this year, the actual cathedral completed its structure with the completion of the Tower of Jesus Christ, making it the tallest church in the world at 172.5 metres.

With 12,060 pieces, the Sagrada Familia surpasses all previous LEGO sets and becomes the largest LEGO set ever built. The previous record holder was the LEGO Art World Map, which contained 11,695 bricks. Other key sets include the 10,001-piece LEGO Icon Eiffel Tower, the 9,090-piece LEGO Icon Titanic and the 9,036-piece LEGO Arena.

The finished model is approximately 2 feet tall, over 18 inches wide, and over 15 inches deep. It features a stained glass window effect designed to reflect the way light passes through the real church.

The set captures several of the cathedral’s typical architectural features, including all 18 symbolic towers, three intricately carved facades and the forest-like interior.

Due to its advanced complexity, LEGO recommends this set for builders aged 18 and over. Builders estimate it will take 25 to 35 hours to complete the model.

The set was designed by LEGO Architecture designer Rok Žgalin Kobe, who designed the now-retired Colosseum and Taj Mahal sets, as well as the currently available Eiffel Tower.

“We feel a huge responsibility to do justice to the Sagrada Familia with this design,” Zhigarin Kobe said in a statement.

Sagrada Familia is the largest Catholic church in the world. This massive building is located in Barcelona, Spain and was designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. When Gaudí died in 1926, less than a quarter of the building was completed. Work on the sculptural and decorative details is expected to continue until 2034.

The launch comes as 2026 is designated as the “Year of Gaudí” to mark the 100th anniversary of the architect’s death on June 10, 1926. Barcelona has also been named World Architecture Capital for 2026.
