Lakeside senior Kameirah Johnson won the national Google Doodle competition, earning a $45,000 scholarship and a spot on the Google homepage.
SEATTLE — A Seattle high school student is seeing her artwork appear on the Google homepage after winning this year’s Doodle for Google contest.
Kameirah Johnson, a Grade 12 student at Lakeside School, was chosen from tens of thousands of entries from across the country to win the competition’s top honors.
The 2026 competition theme, “My Super Power is…,” inspired Johnson’s artwork. In her artist statement, she wrote that her hair represented generations of culture, care and resilience, calling it “undeniably beautiful.”
Johnson learned she was the national champion during a live appearance on the “Today Show” in New York on Thursday, where she discussed her artwork and future goals.
As the competition’s national champion, Johnson will receive an additional $45,000 in scholarships and Lakeside School will receive a $50,000 technology package. Her winning doodle will remain on the Google homepage until 9:59pm Thursday.
