WASHINGTON — More than 320,000 solar-powered cameras are being recalled after reports that their lithium-ion batteries may overheat, posing a risk of serious burns or fire.
consumer product safety commission The company issued a recall alert for the Wyze Solar Cam Pan security camera after receiving 13 consumer reports of the camera overheating and six reports of it exploding into flames, six of which reported minor burn injuries.
According to the recall notice, the cameras shipped with incorrect assembly instructions that could cause users to inadvertently puncture the lithium-ion battery’s metal casing.
The products will be available online through Amazon, B2B Renew, Best Buy and Wyze.com and in-store at Home Depot and Micro Center from October 2025 to April 2026, retailing for approximately $80.
The recalled cameras are white, wireless, equipped with motorized pan-tilt functionality and integrated solar panels. Users can identify recalled products by the model number WYZESCPWH on the back of the camera.
Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled security cameras immediately. Those who use long grub screws to mount their solar panels on top of their cameras are specifically included in the recall. Anyone unsure of which screws to use during installation should consult Wyze’s website for guidance.
Customers who own the recalled product can receive a free replacement camera with a solar panel accessory, a full refund or a full-price gift card that can be used on the company’s website, according to the recall.
CConsumers will be required to certify disposal of recalled cameras and should comply with local and state regulations. Recalled lithium-ion batteries must be handled differently than other batteries because they present a greater fire risk.
City household hazardous waste (HHW) collection centers may accept them, but consumers should call ahead to confirm before discarding the device. If the recalled lithium-ion batteries are not accepted at the local HHW facility, residents should contact their municipality for further guidance.
