Instead of winning money, a New Jersey woman received a trespassing ticket after winning a slot machine jackpot at a casino. She wasn’t the only one this week.
WASHINGTON — A New Jersey woman banned for life from a Pennsylvania casino was escorted out of a Pennsylvania casino on Sunday after winning a slot machine jackpot.
According to Pennsylvania State PoliceSecurity guards at Granville’s Hollywood Casino alerted police to reports that a guest was determined to be self-exclusion for life after winning a slot machine jackpot on Sunday.
Police confirmed the 69-year-old woman voluntarily self-excluded in 2019 and was granted lifetime exclusion status. According to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, self-exclusion is a way for those with gambling problems to voluntarily exclude themselves from casinos, Internet gambling, video gaming terminals and fantasy sports betting.
The Gambling Commission explains on its website that those who take part in self-exclusion are prohibited from collecting any winnings, recovering any losses or accepting any free gifts or services from the casino. It added that anyone violating the self-exclusion clause “will forfeit all winnings and may be subject to a summons for trespassing.”
During Sunday’s incident, police escorted the woman from the property and told her a trespassing citation would be filed against her.
A day later, a similar situation occurred at another casino in Pennsylvania, where another jackpot winner was self-banned.
Pennsylvania State Police Report On June 1, a 40-year-old New Jersey man was allegedly spotted at Parks Casino in Bucks County after winning the jackpot. Authorities said the man self-isolated in 2022 and left the property before police could make contact. A trespassing summons was issued against him.
