SEATTLE – A Seattle elementary school teacher was hit while riding her bicycle in Seattle on June 1 and later died from her injuries.
According to the Seattle Police Department, 30-year-old Christian Salyer was struck while riding his bicycle near 12th Avenue and East Yesler Way in Seattle at 4:31 p.m. A 2019 Recology truck was involved in a crash, and the truck driver underwent a disability evaluation at the scene.
Salier died of multiple blunt force injuries on June 1, and his death was ruled an accident, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Seattle Public Schools said he was a teacher at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School in the Judkins Park neighborhood.
“It is with deep sadness that I share the news of the passing of one of our valued employees, Christian Salyer, who passed away this morning from injuries sustained in a bicycle accident,” Principal Julie Breidenbach said in an email to families on Monday. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to Christian’s family, friends and all who knew and loved him.”
SPS described Salyer as “a dedicated teacher who served our school with passion and care for many years. He made a lasting impact on students, colleagues and families. His enthusiasm, dedication and commitment to education will be deeply missed.”
The Seattle Police Department Traffic Collision Investigation Team is leading the investigation into the crash.
