The company said it was aware of three incidents involving sunroof failures, but there were no injuries or crashes.
WASHINGTON — Subaru is recalling more than 69,000 Forester SUVs because the power sunroof glass can detach while the vehicle is in motion, posing a potential safety hazard.
This recall affects certain 2026 Subaru Forester and Forester Hybrid vehicles. According to recall documents File with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
A total of 69,663 vehicles may be involved, including:
- 2026 Subaru Forester: 65,656 vehicles
- Production date: June 19, 2025 to March 13, 2026
- 2026 Subaru Forester Hybrid: 4,007 vehicles
- Production date: February 20, 2026 to March 17, 2026
Affected vehicles may be manufactured with a power sunroof assembly in which the glass panel is improperly bonded to the sliding frame.
Subaru says the bond between the glass and frame may weaken over time, causing the sunroof glass to peel off while the vehicle is in operation.
Subaru said it received a technical report on February 26, 2026, regarding a vehicle with a sunroof glass panel that had fallen off. The company launched an investigation and worked with suppliers to determine the scope of the affected vehicles. The supplier initially inspected components under its control and found no issues, but a subsequent investigation determined that some skylight components may have been produced with improper bonding.
The automaker announced the voluntary recall on May 21.
Subaru said it is aware of three technical reports related to the issue in the U.S. market between February 26 and March 25, 2026. The company said it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the defect.
The automaker said it believes 2.9% of recalled vehicles are defective.
Subaru dealers will check the sunroof glass panel for proper adhesion. If necessary, dealers will replace the sunroof glass assembly for free for car owners.
Subaru owners affected by the recall will begin receiving notices in the mail around July 24. The VIN numbers of affected vehicles can be searched on the Subaru website.
