WNDU reports that the Michigan City Fire Department found a woman outside a fence “severely injured” with at least four bite wounds to her neck and extremities.
A second zookeeper was found in an enclosure with a wolf and reportedly suffered a “less serious” bite on his forearm, WNDU reported.
NBC Chicago reported that a second zookeeper had been able to climb onto the roof of a building inside the enclosure. Firefighters reportedly had to use a ladder to “carefully” free the zookeeper from his enclosure.
The zoo remained open Wednesday, but the main wolf exhibit was closed while staff monitored the animals and continued to assess the situation.
