The “Stanley the Puppy” special will premiere in the United States and Canada on Monday, June 8.
WASHINGTON — When the Vegas Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes face off in the Stanley Cup Final, a group of 32 puppies, each representing a National Hockey League team, will have an ice-cold game of their own.
Stanley the Puppy returns for its third year. it’s a spin puppy bowl Super Bowl airs on Sunday. It’s basically the same thing, except dogs play hockey instead of football.
The 90-minute special will air next Monday night (June 8) in the United States and Canada. It is simulcast on TruTV and HBO Max, with Rescue Dogs airing on streaming and cable at 9:30 pm ET. In Canada, the show will air on Sportsnet at 8pm ET. The show will be replayed on the NHL YouTube channel at 9 a.m. the next day and then on NHL Network on Wednesday night.

Each puppy is named after a popular NHL player, Jack and Quinn Chews, representing brothers Jack and Quinn Hughes of the New Jersey Devils and Minnesota Wild, respectively. Other hockey players represented include New York Islanders guard Matthew Schaefer (whose dog incarnation is Matthew Schaefurry) and Golden Knights center Jack Eichel (whose puppy incarnation is Jack Eichowl).
Real-life NHL players such as Schaefer and Washington Capitals legend Alex Ovechkin are expected to appear in the TV special, along with color commentary from real NHL media announcers such as Alexa Landestoy, who will be reporting from the sidelines.
The Stanley Pup has also attracted big names outside of the hockey world. According to reports, “Saturday Night Live”‘s Keenan Thompson, rapper Flavor Flav and “Black-ish” star Anthony Anderson will all be in attendance, all self-professed dog lovers, along with Jane Smart, Brooke Shields, Michael Strahan, Joel McHale and “dog lover” Elias Wes Friedman.
