Cars take to Seattle’s elevated light rail

Images from the scene show a red SUV parked on the elevated light rail track at Mount Baker station.

SEATTLE — Sound Transit’s Line 1 light rail service from Stadium Station to Othello Station is suspended after a vehicle drove onto the elevated tracks at Mount Baker Station.

Trains continue to run from Lynwood City Center Station to Stadium Station, and from Federal Way City Center Station to Othello Station.

Images of the scene provided to KING 5 show a red SUV on the light rail tracks. It’s unclear how the vehicle got to that location.

The Seattle Fire Department said the vehicle was found on the northbound tracks. The driver, a 70-year-old woman, was able to get out of the vehicle and was taken to hospital in stable condition.

According to Sound Transit, power to the tracks has been shut off. Emergency crews are on scene making plans to remove the car.

Sound Transit has ordered shuttles to replace service between the Stadium and Othello stations.

There is currently no estimated time for service to be restored.
