A series of shootings in an Iowa town on Monday left six people dead, at least two of them children. The suspected shooter also died, police said.
Police said at approximately 12:20 a.m. on Monday, June 1, officers received a report of a shooting in the 200 block of Parkway in Muscatine, Iowa. WQAD.
The Muscatine Police Department said when officers arrived at the address, they found all four victims shot to death.
The suspect was identified as 52-year-old Ryan Willis McFarland. Police said McFarland, who was found on a riverside path near a pedestrian bridge, committed suicide after a confrontation with police.
During the course of the investigation, police learned there may be other victims. One man was found dead at a home in the 1500 block of Mill Street and another man was found dead at a business in the 800 block of Grandview Avenue.
Shootings occurred across the city and police believe they stemmed from domestic disputes. All of the victims are believed to be family members of McFarlane.
The Muscatine Community School District confirmed that two of the victims were district employees and the other two were students. The victim’s age and other identifying details are unknown at this time.
The shooting remains under investigation.
