Fire destroys independent store in South Kitsap

South Kitsap Fire and Rescue crews contained a full-scale fire that resulted in partial structural collapse. One firefighter suffered minor injuries.

KITTSAP COUNTY, Wash. — An independent store in south Kitsap County was severely damaged in a fire Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 4000 block of Bethel Road SE near Bremerton around 12:17 p.m. for a report of a residential structure fire. South Kitsap Fire Rescue Crews found a free-standing store completely engulfed in flames, with parts of the structure collapsed, crews said.

According to the South Kitsap Fire Rescue Center, firefighters launched an aggressive attack and had the fire under control within 15 minutes of dispatch, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries in the incident. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire has not been released and remains under investigation.
