Trooper Kameron Watts said a white Toyota 4Runner stolen from Cle Elum hit another vehicle and disabled it, causing a traffic jam.
TACOMA, Wash. — The occupants of a stolen SUV fled on foot after rear-ending another vehicle. Interstate 5 southbound near Port of Tacoma Road Sunday morning, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Trooper Kameron Watts told KING 5 that a white Toyota 4Runner stolen from Cle Elum hit another vehicle and crippled its right shoulder near mile marker 136.
The occupants of the stolen vehicle fled before police arrived. Authorities set up a cordon and searched the area but did not immediately find the suspect.
“There were no witnesses,” Watts said. “When we got to the car, they had fled.”
Investigators don’t know how many people were inside the SUV. Watts said the vehicle will be processed for fingerprints and DNA evidence. Blood was found inside the car, which police believe may be related to the collision.
The passengers of the struck vehicle were reportedly uninjured.
The crash blocked the right lane of southbound Interstate 5 and closed the Tacoma Harbor Road southbound entrance ramp, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
