Poulsbo man arrested after swinging bat at passing cars

POULSBOO, Wash. — A 36-year-old man from Poulsbo was arrested Thursday morning on charges of felony harassment and evading arrest for waving a bat in traffic and other erratic behavior, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 10:19 a.m., Kitsap law enforcement received a report of a disturbance near State Road 305 and Northwest Viking Boulevard, including a 911 call of a man wielding a baseball bat and swinging it at a car.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. Police moved the suspect into his vehicle near Northwest Pioneer Road, but he fled again and law enforcement launched a pursuit. KCSCO deputies deployed spike strips on Highway 3, which jammed two of the suspect’s tires, but the man continued to drive on the vehicle’s rims.

The suspect exited the highway onto NW Luoto Road (also known as Highway 308) outside of Silverdale, where he was stopped and detained without incident with the assistance of trained crisis negotiators from KCSO and the Poulsbo Police Department, according to police.
