Coast Guard rescues two fishermen trapped in Skokomish River

Sheldon, Washington — United States coast guard They rescued two fishermen who were stranded on the South Fork of the Skokomish River, according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

The fishermen were taken to Sanderson Airport for medical evaluation after being rescued Saturday near Holman Flats, authorities said.

Earlier in the day, Guardian 1 found the two men after they were stranded overnight by the river.

Fishermen lit small fires and built shelters overnight to help them stay warm as rescue operations continued, authorities said.

Rescue coordinators determined that ground teams were unable to safely reach the fishermen due to challenging terrain and river conditions. Officials then requested additional air resources, and a helicopter from U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Astoria responded to the scene.

Authorities said there were no reports of major injuries.
