A bee alert was issued for an overturned truck, but the Burlington Fire Marshal said no truck overturned.
BURLINGTON, Wash. — A box of bees fell from a truck at a Burlington intersection early Friday morning, sparking a public safety alert although there were no known bites, Burlington Fire Chief Rob Toth said.
Toth said the box fell from the truck at the corner of Burlington Avenue and Fairhaven around 6 a.m.
The incident triggered a Skagit Ready Alert, warning residents to be aware of the swarm at 100 N. Burlington Blvd. and told people to avoid the area until further notice. The alert said the bees came from an overturned truck, but Toth said that part was inaccurate.
Toth described the scene as “not impressive” and said he had to call dispatch to make sure he was in the right location when he responded.
He said that as far as he knew, no one had been stung.
Toth said someone was on site picking up fallen bees.
