Celebrations will be held across Western Washington this weekend with events such as the Mason County Forest Festival, the Tapir Ume Farewell and the Kent International Festival.
SEATTLE — May is coming to an end, but the season of celebration is in full swing.
From wildfire prevention and logging to global festivals honoring culture and community, festivals are in full swing across the region. This weekend also includes a number of farewell and graduation ceremonies.
Here are five things to do in Western Washington this weekend:
Timber Legends: May 28-31 — The annual four-day Forest Festival is set to take place this weekend in Mason County. In honor of the “City of Timbers,” the event includes a carnival, fun run, pancake breakfast, parade, lumberjack show, fireworks and more. Full lineup and more information available here.
Goodbye May: May 29-31 — Ume, a Malayan tapir at the Tacoma Point Defiance Zoo, will be moved to a Midwestern zoo in early June. This weekend is the last chance to see the tapir, which was born at the zoo in February 2025. The move is part of a species survival plan to help ensure a healthy future for the endangered Malayan tapir.
Asian American Film Festival: May 29-31 — The 14th annual Seattle Asian American Film Festival will be held at the Louyong Museum and the Langston Hughes Institute for the Performing Arts. This year’s theme is “The Destiny/Interconnectedness of the Asian Diaspora.” Provide ticket information and schedules here.
Kent International Festival: 30 May — The 18th annual festival at the accesso ShoWare Center highlights culture, food and performances from around the world. There will be dancing and demonstrations on both stages throughout the day, as well as an art fair, local vendors and food trucks. More information is available here.
Black Graduation Ceremonies: May 30-31 — Presented by Wa Na Wari in partnership with the Northwest African American Museum, this two-day event celebrates Black artists with an art fair and cultural gathering in Seattle’s Central District.
