U.S. military accuses Iran of “serious violation of ceasefire agreement” after missile attack on Kuwait

WASHINGTON — The U.S. military on Thursday slammed Iran for violating a fragile ceasefire deal after Kuwait reported attacks in the latest clashes, threatening ongoing talks to end the war.

Kuwait intercepted a missile launched by Iran late Wednesday, U.S. Central Command said, calling Iran’s attack on one of America’s top allies in the Persian Gulf a “serious violation of the ceasefire.”

Kuwait earlier announced an attack on its territory, and Iran said it retaliated for an attack earlier this week by firing on a U.S. base in the Gulf country, which it did not name. Kuwait’s foreign ministry on Thursday condemned what it called “blatant aggression” by Iran.

The United States and Iran have been carrying out attacks this week even as President Donald Trump says he believes his administration is making progress in talks to end the war with Iran.
