The 2026 55th Anniversary Quarter features Thomas Jefferson and the Liberty Bell as part of the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebrations.
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Mint will begin shipping new coins 2026 50th Anniversary Quarter It’s one of the latest releases tied to America’s upcoming 250th anniversary, commemorating the June 1 Declaration of Independence delivered to the Federal Reserve.
The obverse of the coin is engraved with Thomas Jefferson, the main author of the Declaration of Independence and the third president of the United States. Inscriptions include “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “1776 ~ 2026”.
One side of the tail depicts the ringing of the Liberty Bell, symbolizing the proclamations and proclamations shared during the founding era. The mint said the cracks visible on the bell were intended to reflect “the fragility of a young nation at the time of its founding.”
Other inscriptions on the reverse include “Declaration of Independence,” “25 Cents,” “Liberty,” and “United States of America.”
The quarter is part of the Sesquicentennial Coin Program, which was authorized by Congress through the Circulating Collectible Coins Redesign Act of 2020 and signed into law in 2021.
The U.S. Mint said the coins will be distributed to commercial banks and financial institutions through the Federal Reserve starting in June.
The broader Sesquicentennial coin program commemorates America’s 250th anniversary of freedom and recognizes the country’s founding principles and history, according to the U.S. Mint.
