‘Give your hands to God?’ | Florida deputy ramps up call citations after woman says she has no hands

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA – A traffic stop in Florida is viral A police officer accused a woman of using her mobile phone while driving and then doubled down when she revealed she had no hands.

Body camera video of the incident Posted by the woman — named Katie — shows the deputy getting out of his car and telling Katie the department is taking action against distracted driving.

The officer then told Katie he saw her driving past him while holding and operating a phone in her right hand.

“Obviously not. Hahaha,” Katie replied, raising her right arm to show that she had no right hand. “So you want to call it a day?”

The officer then dug deeper and not only said he wasn’t going to stop there for the day, but asked her, “Reach out to God,” wasn’t she holding her phone?

Katie responded, “Reach your hands to God,” and raised her right arm.

The deputy then said, “Oh my gosh, you don’t have a phone?”

Katie confirmed she didn’t and the officer asked to see her driver’s license.

In another video, Katie’s post shows interaction The deputy issued her a citation.

The officer told her she had received a $116 ticket for driving with a wireless communications device in her hand. Katie asked the deputy if that reflected his claim that the phone was in her right hand. He told her that was not the case and that she could sue in court. When he walked to her car, he did confirm that this was what he had initially accused her of.

At the end of the video, Katie stretched out her right arm at home and threw the phone onto her arm with her left hand. The phone bounced off her arm and fell to the floor.

Katie did choose Take the matter to court and requested an in-person hearing.

She said she was later told her appearance in court had been denied, but she went to court to confirm it anyway. She said she received a document containing the reasons for the dismissal, but it was listed as “lack of evidence.”
