Tacoma apartment fire kills 1

A fire broke out in a Tacoma apartment Tuesday night, killing one person as firefighters quickly put out the flames. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.

TACOMA, Wash. — An apartment fire in Tacoma late Tuesday night left one person dead, according to the Tacoma Fire Department.

The department said crews responded to the 200 block of North Yakima Avenue around 11:47 p.m. following reports of a fire at an apartment building.

When firefighters arrived, they found flames climbing from a first-floor unit up the side of the building. Crews quickly extinguished the fire, officials said.

The fire was contained to an apartment unit and part of the building’s exterior.

The department confirmed one person died in the fire. All other passengers escaped safely and no other injuries were reported.

Officials urged people to use caution in the area as firefighters and Tacoma police remained on scene investigating the cause of the crash.
