CHELLAN COUNTY, Wash. — One person was killed and three others were injured, including a 17-year-old, in two unrelated incidents Saturday night in Chelan County, according to state highway and law enforcement officials in the area.

Teen injured in shooting in downtown Chelan

On May 23 around 10:20 p.m., a Chelan County Sheriff’s Office deputy was patrolling nearby South Emerson Street and East Wapato Avenue when he heard shots fired near Chelan Riverfront Park. Officers rushed to the scene.

Upon arrival, deputies found a 17-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower back and administered first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. No further information about the teen’s condition was immediately known.

They were initially unable to find the suspect, but after hearing witness statements and collecting evidence at the scene, investigators concluded the suspect was a 14-year-old Chelan resident.

Officers reportedly spoke with the suspect’s parents by phone that night and coordinated the teen’s surrender. Law enforcement booked the suspect into the Chelan County Juvenile Justice Center on two counts of first-degree assault.

According to the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect does not attend school in the Chelan or Manson school districts, and “investigators have not received any information indicating a threat to local schools,” the department wrote on social media.
