A traffic stop turned into a drug bust when deputies stopped a vehicle during a routine operation along Highway 20 near Chester and discovered 115.4 pounds of drugs, which were later seized, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies said the drugs are estimated to be worth more than $1.5 million, the largest amount of methamphetamine ever seized by law enforcement in the state.
according to Oregon-Idaho Drug Trafficking Area ProgramFremont County is not designated as a county with high levels of drug movement. In Idaho, the largest amounts of drugs are trafficked through Ada, Canyon, Bannock and Kootenai counties.
The two were arrested during the stop and face felony drug trafficking charges. The Sheriff’s Office did not release their identities.
“Illegal narcotics continue to have a devastating impact on families and communities across the country,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post. “The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting the residents of Fremont County through aggressive law enforcement efforts and an ongoing commitment to public safety.”
