Officials said a small dog inside the vehicle suffered unknown injuries.
PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — Pierce County officers responded to reports of a fatal rollover near Electron Saturday night.
Around 9:04 p.m., a truck carrying two male passengers – a driver, a passenger and a small dog – overturned at the intersection of Orville Road East and Griggs Road East near Lake Kapowsin. According to reports from the scene, both passengers were men in their 40s and 50s and neither were wearing seat belts.
Pierce County Sheriff’s Deputy Carly Cappetto said emergency personnel pronounced the driver of the vehicle dead at the scene. The passenger was taken to a local hospital with “serious” injuries. The puppy’s injuries were unknown and the Pierce County Fire Department transported it to an emergency veterinary clinic.
“The road will be closed in both directions for some time. It’s not clear what the cause is and the investigation is still in its early stages,” Cappetto told KING 5.
